UVU Men’s Hoops Picks Up JUCO Commit

UVU got a commit today from a JUCO sharpshooter.

Prior to Monday, the UVU men’s basketball team had five open scholarships. Well, on Monday morning, junior college transfer LeTre Darthard made it four open scholarships.

Darthard is a shooting guard out of Denton, Texas who just finished his freshman season at McCook Community College. The 6-4 swingman averaged 18.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. If that’s not impressive enough, Darthard shot 59 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point land.

Along with BYU transfer Colby Leifson, Darthard can provide something Utah Valley thoroughly struggled with in 2019-20. Under first-year head coach Mark Madsen, the Wolverines shot just 30 percent from the 3-point line.

Here are some highlights of Darthard. Good shooter and can finish at the basket. It is something that the Wolverines need.

Darthard was an All-Region IX third team selection and was named to the Region IX All-Tournament Team. In his two tournament games, Darthard had 30 and 35 points, respectively. And, that was all while shooting 76 percent from the field and going 5-7 from the 3-point line.

Other UVU Recruiting News

Darthard is the second player to commit to Madsen and the Wolverines. In the fall, Salt Lake Community College small forward Asa McCord also committed. The 6-6 sophomore was third on the team in scoring at 11.5 points per game. McCord also pulled down 8.3 rebounds per contest for the 29-4 Bruins.

Here is a link where you can watch some highlights of McCord’s senior year at Westlake High.

In this time of uncertainty, it is good to see something positive come for UVU. Even though it is a dead period for recruiting, Madsen is able to pull a commit. That has to say a lot about his capability as a recruiter. Keep your eye out for more recruiting news as there are still four scholarships to fill.
