One Team All Green

The Green Machine Podcast – Ben Aird Reminisces About 2013-14 WAC Championship

In this episode of The Green Machine Podcast, Kyle and Tyler talk with former All-WAC First-Team member Ben Aird. The trio relive the 2013-14 season where UVU won the WAC regular season crown and earned a trip to the NIT. Aird was a big part of the run and the 4-year starter for the Wolverines talks about some of the best moments from that season.

One of those moments was the end of the New Mexico State game in Orem. We all know what happens. The New Mexico State player throws the ball at Holton Hunsaker and chaos ensues. UVU students rush the court and a brawl starts. It was all over ESPN and every major news outlet. Sad part is that it took away from a great ball game. In fact, had Keave Enos not hit three free throws in the final seconds of regulation, UVU might never have won the WAC regular season title.

Aird also talks about loyalty to the university despite wanting to leave after his sophomore season. It is much different to today’s culture around college basketball as players come and go at a rapid pace.

It is an intriguing episode that you won’t want to miss.
