One Team All Green

The Green Machine Podcast – TJ Hubbard, Head Coach – UVU Softball

It is another week and another episode of The Green Machine Podcast. In this episode, Micah and Kyle sit down with UVU softball coach TJ Hubbard to discuss the 2018 season.

Hubbard enters his second season at UVU and there is excitement surrounding the program. With seven starters returning, plus quality newcomers and transfers, expectations are high for UVU softball.

Preseason All-WAC selections Lauren Frailey Spendlove and Caragh Morris return. Frailey Spendlove is the reigning WAC Pitcher of the Year while Morris is the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year.

The Wolverines finished 16-24 overall in 2017 and 7-8 in WAC play. UVU entered the WAC Tournament as the 3-seed, highest ever since joining the WAC.

Hubbard has an unorthodox philosophy in that he doesn’t have his players bunt. It is surprising because bunting is something most teams use. However, Hubbard wants to put his players in the best situation to succeed. So, he would rather have his players hit balls in the air and use their ability at the plate over giving up an out.

With the additions of junior college transfer Addie Jensen and others, UVU has some depth. Jensen pitched at Salt Lake Community College where was was a First Team NJCAA All-American. She was 27-4 in 2017 and helped the Bruins to a runner-up finish at Nationals.

Lexi Sorensen, Madison Sisco, Kaylee Bott, Karly Bunderson and Skylar Cook are all in the mix to have a big impact.

With a schedule that features the first 22 games away from Orem, UVU will be battle tested when WAC play begins on March 30.

As part of the schedule, UVU plays five of the six NCAA Division I softball programs in 2018. The Wolverines play at Southern Utah on Feb. 25, then play Weber State on March 2 and March 4 in St. George, Utah. UVU gets a shot against Utah State in Orem on March 21 as well as two games against crosstown foe BYU on April 10 and May 1.

      Hey Marcelo,

That is a good question. I know they have the Adidas store on campus right next to the bookstore. You might want to check there. Other than that, not sure where to buy them. At baseball games, they have the Wolverine Den that has apparel. At basketball games, there is a little stand right inside the door of the UCCU Center. The best idea might be to reach out to UVU Athletics on social media to see. We are sorry that we can’t be of more help.
